Spectacular! We Need More Building Improvements Like This!

The owner of the Zumba building has been making renovations to the exterior and interior of the building on the SW corner of Williams and Perry St. in Paulding. Exterior work includes tuck pointing masonry joints and painting dental work, top railing and window frames. Interior work includes replacing wood window trim and casements, opening up windows to reveal entire height of the windows, that  would have been the original configuration. Floors stripped to reveal original wood floors that are being sanded down and sealed. The upstairs to be utilized for business purposes.  In the picture the right half of the building looks to be completed on the exterior – just is remarkable what a little paint and masonry work can do to improve the looks of the building.  The work being done is not cosmetic, it is being done correctly to last.  Thank you so much for investing in Paulding, we appreciate what you have brought to the community. This is the fourth building on this block to make improvements. When done correctly the second floors of buildings can be utilized for business purposes and loft rental, the thing is it needs to be done correctly to achieve the best utilization and return.   Hopefully we will be able to continue with the theme around the square with sidewalks, lighting and brick work along the curb – some plantings would be great too!!  “LET’S DO IT”

I just have to make one more remark “WONDERFUL”. Okay, one more “I am so proud”.

Updates

A crew will be starting the removal of the debris from the Barnes Hotel fire the first week of November.

Also, the old Certified Gas Station will be razed and concrete and asphalt and miscellaneous debris removed by end of this month. The property is leased by the Paulding Chamber of Commerce that is constructing a green space park on the site.

With the clean up of  these two sites we now have another site that needs immediate attention.  The site of the old Paulding Putman Electric facility is now a blight on the community.  The building was in the process of being torn down to construct a gas station and convenience store when the storm hit several months ago. A portion of the back of the building had been torn down and a pile of building material is piled up in the front of the building along the road.  This situation is not acceptable. Sufficient time has elapsed for insurance claims to be made.  This situation has become a public nuisance and is demoralizing to the adjacent property owners and the general public.  This is another one those situations that also effect property values in the area. There are ordinances to deal with this situation and should be enforced immediately. Action is needed now.  Ask your councilman to act on this now.

Barnes Hotel Update

Total Environmental Services is at the site today taking 10 penetration samples requested by Ohio EPA. Total Environmental Services hopes to  have the green light  right away from the state to be able to proceed with the removal of debris.

‘It CAN be done in Paulding County’

The following message was published in the Paulding Chamber of Commerce’s October newsletter. As their dynamic director, Erika Willitzer, says, “Let’s work together and let’s make things happen!”
It’s an extremely important time for the Paulding Chamber. I believe we’re at the fork in the road. One of my main objectives as executive director is the beautification of our town. This not only creates a sense of pride in our community but it also will act as a catalyst for new business and residents to settle down in our area.
After hitting several walls, after several months, progress is finally breaking through. In the coming weeks you’ll begin to notice work being conducted on the old abandoned Certified Gas Station. The Chamber Board received terrific news earlier this week, when the results came back that NO asbestos was discovered on the site. You can’t even imagine the relief, I felt when hearing that news. Mainly because, the burden of raising the funds to tear down the structure and creating a beautiful green space on the land is the one of the biggest projects the Chamber has ever tackled.
Details regarding the green space will soon be released to the public, but in the meantime, I want you to know the draft design for the property is stunning. It will be a place where you can enjoy lunch and visit with friends. The Chamber Board also envisions art galleries, wine tasting parties, visits from Santa, a farmer’s market, and a place where small musical groups can perform.
You know how the Bible says “Faith can move a Mountain.” I have so much faith that this project will prevail. My only fear is that only a few will be faithful and only a few will help make our community soar. So I ask you, is this community important to you? Is it important for you to be a role model for your families? Is it important to see the bigger picture of fighting for our county so it can prevail for years to come? If you answered “Yes” to the above questions, then you feel the same way I do.
Someone asked me the other day, why I gave up my higher paying position in Fort Wayne to work in Paulding. The answer is simple. I want to make a difference and I want to make that difference happen in my own backyard…in my own county. I pray every night that others will want to make an impact as well.
I’m so tired of hearing people say, “It can’t be done in Paulding County.” I ask WHY NOT? If this is how you feel. If you feel compelled to make a difference for future generations to come and you feel that it CAN be done in Paulding County, then I say simply CALL ME…. Let’s work together and let’s make things happen.
