It is unbelievable that someone would apply for the job before it was even made public. To send resumés to all the board members of PCED leads me to believe that eager person had access to inside information. Since that resumé was sent before the public was made aware of the position, it should be disregarded.

Thank you for your comments, I appreciate your participation in this discussion and invite others to participate by joining the discussion on this blog. The complexity of the situation we now find ourselves is much more serious than it was just 20 years ago. This situation will not be resolved by ignoring it, nor can we think someone will take care of it eventually - if we as a community desire change we will have to get involved. I am working on a presentation "The Paulding Plan, A Pathway To Community Development And Improvement". More details on this plan later.

The improvements in our infrastructure now under construction, the separation of the sewers and the construction of the new water plant along with some water line improvements are a critical part of the plan. The sewer separation, new water line, curb replacement and street resurfacing has definitely improved the appearance of the Cherry St. neighborhoods, residences are making improvements and doing landscaping. Improvements like these have improved property values and made, with the exception of noisy vehicles, the neighborhood a pleasant place to live, be proud of, and has increased walking traffic since it is a nice neighborhood conducive to a nice evening stroll benefitting body and mind - just look at the benefits these improvements provide.

Thanks again.

I love your vision - and it is eerily similar to the vision we had when we did the Downtown Revitalization (Paulding Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development). After the new handicap accessible sidewalks, historic streetlights, awnings, banners, benches, building repairs and maintenance, etc. Our Village was that vision - we had an outside café located where Suzie's Bakery is now. We had every store front filled around the square - first time in years! Katherine's Village Shoppes, Radio Shack, Village Apothecary, Hallmark Store, a framing store, a sewing store, The Sport Source, GM Pro Shop, etc. Things were good - we thought we had accomplished our dream.

Why the downfall? Because for some reason - I have yet to understand - our citizens would rather spend the time and gas money to go out of town for their shopping and socializing. How do you change that? As a past Chamber Director, I can tell you that we tried everything we could think of to promote "Shop Locally" and entice people downtown. I've come to the conclusion that the attitude must change - we need to become united as a community - to support our local business above all others - THAT'S the way a small, rural community survives.

How do you change the attitude? By positive re-enforcement - most professionals will tell you. Have you been in the new second hand store down by the old Red Owl - or the quilting store on the corner? If not - make a point of it - look around - spend a buck or two - and THANK THEM for "investing" in our community and then SPREAD THE WORD.

Today, Friday, at 7:57, even though it is a rainy day and drop offs on inclement days seem to be more numerous, there was no congestion - possibly because the pylons were not in place which allows thru traffic and people who have already dropped off their students to move to the left lane and exit the circle. The solution to the problem may be just some education on not allowing students to exit the vehicle from the left side of the vehicle, drop offs should be made from the right lane only. Cars at the corner of Water and Jefferson seem to alternate at the intersection with courtesy.

Several individuals of the community attended the street committee meeting Tuesday to express their concerns of the proposed change. They were told the council was in agreement and that the solicitor was drafting the legislation. After further discussions with the attendees the committee agreed to observe the situation and maybe come up with a solution. Both, the school and the village, need to work together to analyze the situation and come up with a solution to the problem. Committee meetings are open to the public.

Tom, just ran across this and thought it was interesting.
"We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Nature's inexhaustable sources of energy - sun, wind and tide...I'd put money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that." Thomas Edison, inventor (1847-1931)
